The very dashing WWI French fighter ace Jean Navarre and his plane in 1918

  • It’s funny how little we hear about the French air force in World War I. Everyone seems to focus on the British vs. the Germans and ignore everyone else. Was this a monoplane fighter he was flying? That’s pretty advanced for the era if it is.

  • This is not 1918. This was very early. A Moraine Saulnier monoplane with steel wedges fitted to the propeller blade to deflect the bullets from the gun. This was just before the German Eindecker monoplane and the invention and adoption of interrupter gear that caused the “Fokker Scourge”.
