Nothing bothers me more then when a game page has no IN-GAME screenshots with a HUD. Seeing a bunch of concept art does not help me make a purchase. Video should also have some gameplay not just cool atmospheric shots.

I left the name of the game out because I didn’t want it to receive unwarranted hate. I just used it as an example. There are many others who do this.
As I remember Steam made actual in-game screenshots mandatory in their store.
Annoys me, too. No screenshots, no video of actual gameplay, only fancy images and cinematic videos of scenes which you never see in the game.
This is why I look at some community screenshots first and view some gameplay videos on YouTube.
There’s this thing on your internet browser called a search engine
Do you have one of those ?
Add pre rendered cut scenes to that list.
I want to see gameplay and get an idea for the feel of the game.
It might be a controversial opinion, but this kind of action should be punished, something like less profit when selling the game (steam takes a bigger part) or not allowing the game launch with those fake screenshots, but i think it’d take too much work.
Been dissapointed by that kinda thing for so long. It’s so predatory and annoying.
And when they ~don’t~ do that, I assume the UI sucks.
oh when a video is all cut scene footage and no in game playing is infuriating.
The term for these are Bullshots. Its a portmanteau of bullshit and screenshot. Unless its visibly gameplay its all bullshots.
Yep. Humble Bundle is guilty of this too, at least with some bundles and an annoying UI.
Lmao i don’t buy any game without seeing atleast 10 minutes of gameplay on YouTube. This tactic has kept me from pre ordering till now, not a single game pre ordered. Sure I’m missing out on some extra content but I don’t really care much for it, as long as I’m interested in gameplay and plot, that’s all that matters
I guess you will hate all the mobile game ads then…
I’m fine with screenshots without a HUD, as long as the screenshots are in-game, not pre-rendered.
Your point isn’t lost on me, but it’s funny you chose a game that’s literally free right now to talk about debating a purchase.
So interesting! I just read in another thread that you should not include HUD in anything promotional (trailers, YT videos, etc.,) and I thought the same thing here … how does someone know if that is just concept artwork or the actual game. Happy to read the other side of that debate!
100% agree
Or when some shitty 2d pixel platformer game/rpg has some amazing splash art as the thumbnail on the store leading me to click on it to see if it’s some hidden gem developer with great graphics
They want you to idealize the game
Soulstice is worth a peek if you haven’t tried it yet. It’s not game of the year but it is a fun title that plays like an older gen hack and slash.
I had the exact same thought with Soulstice, especially because I know nothing about it
Then it’s a poorly made pixel game.
Is annoying, but also, youtube is a great place to check out gameplay, reviews, and get perspective of what a game might be like at the end of the play through
Soulstice is free on Epic rn, so not really a big deal in terms of buying it. Plus, the video on the store page does have snippets of gameplay.
There’s always YouTube
pretty image though i wont lie
Nothing bothers me more when they make a post to complain about something that’s not even true.
They are all ingame screenshots, if a game is made it’s their good right to showcase good looking shots of the game.
I don’t think concept art means what you think it means
You could always just buy it, and then return it two hours later.
You are absolutely right.
Whoaaaaa
Those are the games I don’t buy.
