Alot prettier then driving I80 Nebraska. The most boring and slow 7 hours of your life. The Midwest is absolutely gorgeous and underappreciated and I know there’s pretty parts to Nebraska but holy shit the I80 drive through it is unbearable
This should be in r/sad because that was once a diverse and beautiful landscape full of life but has now been reduced to dull and lifeless by agriculture and poor land management 🙁
We took a detour through North Dakota while on the way home from Glacier National Park, since we’ve never been there before. It’s almost spooky how far you can drive without seeing another human being or civilization.
I94 Goes all the way from Boston to Seattle. Its generally a boring drive. Take the southern route in the winter unless you want to battle snowstorms all the way across.
I’d drive it for the sky. Nothing brings more of a sense of awe and wonder than seeing the sky stretch ahead to all horizons. An almost oppressive sheet of blue pinned down to all terrestrial boundaries, painted with towering mauve cathedrals of distant thunderstorms, licks of ethereal, miles long cirrus, the dutiful journey of the Sun splitting and shining through the uncountable miles of air and water into melding and shifting tableaux of blue, orange, red, pink, yellow, purple and grey. To gaze up at that sky and to truly appreciate what a small dot one is upon the vast and ancient plains of the Earth. To realise that the many changing faces of the sky have looked down upon the Earth long before we arrived, and will do so long after we have gone.
Big Sky Country has a beauty and majesty all of its own.
ahhh yes, that is fly over country
North Dakota
We’re not even the best Dakota
Photos look like a scene in a movie shot by Roger Deakins.

Are there speed limits on roads like this?
Turns out Desert Bus had the right idea all along.
I thought the Rocky Mountains would be a little rockier than this…
Sightly concerning that they’re on different sides of the road.
Mud flats with the same representation in the senate as all of the 40 million people in Calgary.
Is that the state where cops will pull you over because they’re lonely?
I find this very beautiful.
Pfft try Highway 1, Norseman to Ceduna in Australia. 1200odd KMs (7500 miles) of FUCK ALL
You’re missing several hundred “Wall Drug” signs.
Have you dug Wall Drug?
Free coffee and doughnuts to missile crews at Wall Drug!
As a German that is allowed to drive as fast as I want…it would be VERY hard for me to drive at the speed limit here.
How big is the risk of actually getting stopped by a cop in the middle of nowhere?

*Freebird Solo Intensifies*
So you just stuck wheel and go to sleep
Nebraska is pretty much like that also
The dirt is red, the fields are yellow and green, the sky is blue. It was pretty when I drove across.
I’ve made that same drive dozens of times. It’s not terrible. No traffic. Cruising at 90mph. Wide open around you. Well-space truck stops.

I’ve driven I-94 (ND), I-90 (SD), I-80 (NE), and either I-44 or I-40 (OK, and I forget which one), at least once each.
I’d put I-90 at the top as the most beautiful drive. I-94 is second, I-80 is third, and the other 2 are fighting for last place.
I70 across Kansas is very similar
Please explain the funny to non American por favor
I drove that hwy over 15 years ago. I still remember it. Unforgettable.
The long drive. HD remaster.

This is pretty accurate. Hills start rolling around Valley City though.

I’ve never been there, but I’ve heard they have speed limit signs that simply read “Drive Safely”. Is that true?
That looks exceedingly forgettable, actually
North Dakota State Slogan:
“North Dakota: You can watch your dog run away for two weeks.”
The Enchanted Highway is pretty cool

Its funny, south of north dakota, you got shit to look at and north of north dakota you get maple syrup and an apology.
Then you got north dakota…its definitely a place. You might see something. Hell grass doesnt exist there
Now do it in the winter!
