I didn’t feel like Amdromeda was as bad a people made it out to be either… but that was a while ago so maybe I’m mis-remembering.
I hope they leave in this bug, it makes things so much funnier! I’ve only seen it happen once, but it was great!

That same woman in purple wandered into frame while I was trying to give someone a stolen piece of artwork and it killed me. Bethesda will always be Bethesda.
I’ll never understand why Bethesda is always so bad at facial animation.
I’ve seen much much smaller studios with much much less budget create fantastic looking human faces.
The ones on the bottom are “background” NPCs that are deliberately spawned in with lower res textures/etc to reduce load (there’s an option in the menu to increase or decrease spawn rate or remove them entirely if it really bothers you). Unsettling how they wide-eye stare at you but I hardly notice 95% of the time.
All of the “real” NPCs look extraordinarily better.
All I can think about is that that famous Reddit Starfield post from a guy who claimed that he gamed for 40 years yet Starfield was his first Bethesda game. Dude elder scrolls has been around for 30 of those years.

I just don’t understand why Bethesda doesn’t make it a priority to fix this. Every other RPG in the industry has normal NPCs at this point.
I like Starfield, but damn I was not too happy when they reverted back to the old style of zooming in on NPCs. Skyrim did it right.

Wasn’t it Mass Effect that was mocked relentlessly for npc staring like that 6 whole years ago ? Dunno why Bethesda get a pass on everything.

I don’t care so much about the awkward staring or the somewhat unsettling facial expressions…
but for the love of Akatosh, would it kill them to set the walking speed of NPC’s and the PC to the same pace?! Why do I have to keep alternating between walk and run, or just straight up run and stop, run and stop, like some kind of psychopath. Why is my walk slower than their walk, but my run is much faster?!

I’ve decided to pass on Starfield. I can’t play ANOTHER dead-faced Bethesda game; I just can’t.
They’re looking into the depths of my darkened soul.
Why do some of the characters look worse than skyrim characters?
Top: the result of modern graphics and developers giving it their all
Bottom: labor exports to no name Chinese and Indian companies intended to help the billion dollar company in charge save a few pennies
They look like they exist just to play their parts when the player character is near and they can’t handle the weight and stage fright of their sudden relevance.
They are effectively in the presence or speaking directly with one of their gods.
Is there an actual good reason why the faces are so bad? Have seen indie games doing better jobs or literally any game released in the past 10 years
I feel like fallout 4 had better character visuals. It looks like they downgraded.

Except in Daggerfall, everyone is watching you in every angle and degree since they can spin around. You’re not safe.

They got a real problem with the east Asian features model. Many of the characters looks like they are suffering from exophthalmos.
I know it can’t be that bad cause it’s always those same two npcs

I’ve always thought Bethesda games were horrifically ugly. They use some pretty impressive tech at times and are often impressive from a graphical standpoint.
But the art direction is horrible. Their games just look bad. And I’m not just talking about the dead-eyed NPCs, the environments, buildings, furniture, everything.
Am I alone in this opinion?
