Friend of mine was a prop guy in film/tv production back then in Vancouver. I was at his house and asked what he was working on. He tosses me a thick, heavily marked-up shooting script for the pilot episode. I started flipping through the pages and he said it wasn’t bad and might get picked up for series. Mentioned that the writer/creator Chris Carter was a good guy, and that the two leads had real potential. Said the female lead, a red-head, was a stunner!
30 years! RIP to my old pal Ed, prop-man extraordinaire, who passed years ago. I think all the long hours and night shoots on this show hastened his demise. He worked the full Vancouver run until they moved the show down to LA in ’98.
I’d write a thesis about the X-Files just for fun. What it did for television, writing, women, the queer community. The practical effects! The imagery! Crossed flashlight beams in the forest and boxy cars on a long drive to nowhere. The roster of guest stars. Protagonists with chemistry that made their collective fandom so horny that it sparked a new wave of fic and coined the term ‘shipping.’ Episodes that broke television records and others that were banned from airing for years.
One of my favorite reviews (if anyone can find the link 🥺🥺🥺) said he’ll forever find the x files playing on the TV of any dark room he walks into, because that’s where it lives. Two characters who were destined to shape television but only from the secret corners. Mannn I need to take a second
My birthday
Fuck, does this make me feel old. 30 years? Where did the time go. Yikes.

1993 was not 30 years ago, it’s 20 at the MOST!!
Just found out Boy Meets World and X-Files both premiered September of 1993!
Friday night at 10:00
I’m watching this right now! Season 2 halfway point. Still mostly holds up so far.
Feels like 20 years ago, not 30 🤷♂️
Yea thanks for that. Jerk.
One of my favourite shows of all time.
Series I-5 is the best television I’ve ever seen
