Really good movie, _Affliction_. One of Nolte’s best and Coburn got the Oscar for it.
Man, in 1999 I thought Willem Dafoe looked old, but looking back he absolutely does not and he’s kind of good looking.
Great movie, however!
This film is profound. I came from similar. Its bone deep true.
One of my favorite films from the 90s
Willem Dafoe is in my top five favorite actors and I haven’t seen this. Gonna fix that.
I just watched Affliction recently as I’m going through some of Schrader’s movies. It was interesting, bleak, though I thought Nick Nolte’s performance really was borderline ridiculous. Just total bluster and overacting at every given moment. I guess that’s just his style, but it felt unintentionally funny at times. The toothache, the licking salt off his hand… I don’t know, it kind of took me out of the melancholy of the story a bit.
I guess aging like a fine wine is a real thing! And yes, great movie indeed.
Anyone who has Facebook should add Schrader, he has some amazing boomer energy. He’ll go from giving some great insight to some new film, to asking people for help with features on his iPhone. He’s very unfiltered, it’s brilliant.
Haha, aging like a fine wine! Also, agreed on the great movie part.
