They were Cliff Richard and the Drifters at the time. This was prior to being forced to change their name by a lawsuit from the US band with the same name.
You realize what Elvis had when you see someone else try to do the same thing.
It’s just painful to watch this knowing he opted to instead be one of the most boring musicians in history.
Hank Marvin – Respect
Cliff is channeling Elvis *hard*
Is it just me, or did rock and roll actually peak around then?
How about the lead guitarist doin his best Buddy Holly imitation?
Cliff Richard had a few hits in the US as a solo artist, but I never knew until a few years ago just how popular he was in the UK, Australia, NZ and Europe. He (and the Shadows) dominated the charts for years–not so much after the Beatles took off, but Cliff himself has hung in there since the late 1950s and is the 3rd highest-selling artist of all time behind the Beatles and Elvis, with over 60 Top Ten hits in the UK alone. I love “The Young Ones,” and “Lucky Lips,” earlier songs, and “Devil Woman” (the first time I’d heard of him) and “We Don’t Talk Any More,” from the 1970s.
Love this. It’s cool
An Elvis wannabe if ever there was one.
