Those Stingrays (and the Raleigh Chopper) defined a generation. Comfy, easy to fix, centre of mass right over the rear wheel because f*** safety, we have wheelies to do!
I’m a few years older than you. I bought my first stingray at a police auction. Dad hauled it back to the house.
I invited a buddy to hop on for a ride (we were leaving that afternoon for vacation). He’s behind me, I’m peddling hard, coming down the hill to my house.
A couple of houses up the hill from us, the sidewalks were uneven where two lots joined. I hit that uneven joint, my handle bar rolled over 180 degrees with me following it.
I face planted on the sidewalk, my buddy landed on my head. Broke of both of my front top teeth. Emergency run to the dentist to grind off the rough edges. For years I could stick a straw into my mouth without opening my teeth.
I still have the caps that were put on in high school.
That is the Schwinn Stingray with the banana saddle! A classic! I got mine for Christmas when I was 7 years old, but mine was green.
Those seats were so comfy!

Mine was a composite too, white metal flake seat, with a taller sissy bar.
Surprised to see the grips are tassle-less. 🙂
The best!!

Mine in 1972 was burnt orange.
Wow that’s a lot of parts!? I didn’t even know bikes had 1,971 parts! 🤯
