When u make movies for the lowest common denominator to reach the widest audience as possible the first thing that goes out of the window is literally anything in the slightest bit inoffensive which incidentally is nothing other than sex next is logic studios want to be better safe than sorry and to reach audiences of all ages all genders all communities all nations everything has to be watered down to cater to the sense and sensibilities of the last person to buy a ticket to your movie notwithstanding that very same person may be watching porn on his phone while this movie maybe going on in the background.
So yes the first thing studios care is their bottom-line and not whether what exactly u see is the truest representation of human emotions and feelings onscreen.
There is still sex in movies. The problem is that they are entirely in non-American movies, and indie dramas. These movies don’t tend to get a lot of eyeballs, so people will just accept the idea that all of film now is sexless. Which isn’t true, I would say about 85-90% of the indie and non-American dramas I’ve seen this year has had some semblance of nudity in them. We as a country are insanely puritanical, but not about violence for whatever reason, I guess because we literally make money off of it

American markets can stomach violence easier than nudity/sexual content, Europeans are generally the opposite
Seeing as though Hollywood is the main movie machine, I’d assume there’s some causation there.
No sex 🙁

We have certainly gone backwards in American cinema. It’s pretty obvious why.
>Gretchen: *”You know what that scene could have used? Some sex.”*
>Otto: *”Yeah. But you know, these Americans…”*
