It was a sort of genre – “We’re so cool we can get away with playing dorky stuff”. The Beach Boys did it with Chopsticks, for example. Somebody did Tchaikovsky’s March from the Nutcracker Suite, as another; ELP, maybe?
The rest of that show recorded at the El Mocambo is amazing. Legendary.
