Holy cow! I’m worn out just watching all of that.
Not many in that kind of shape today, including me.
This musta been when they still had coke in coke
Bill Haley and the Comets. Bill had a botched ear surgery as a child that resulted in losing eyesight in one eye, hence he looked like he had a lazy eye.
Swing dancing continues on well to this day!
“Kids these days”
1956….sorry to be that guy.
Damn teenagers all hopped up on goofballs and grass. Why back in my day……
Huh. My knee is bouncing.
Awesome, to say the least. My wife is a dancer and I’m pretty sure we couldn’t do that without lots of practice. Music reigns eternal.
Met the sax player at a rockabilly weekender in
Vegas years ago. Lovely person.
It looks like so much fun!
Makes me want to go buy khaki pants.
Loved “Rock Around The Clock” by Bill Hailey And The Comet’s but this version of “Rip It Up” sadly pales in comparison to Little Richard’s ferocious version as was most other version’s of songs interpreted by Richard. Another Example Tutti Frutti by Pat Boone? Smh! Nothing compared to Richard’s version hands DOWN!
That Les Paul tho…
I’m chilling with my 91yr old grandma. She is doing good for her age, better than most, but she is 91
Insane to think she was 21 during this time. Time is a mindfuck
I was heavy into the rockabilly scene and had a pompadour and dressed like a greaser 24/7 from freshman to a year out of school, the first one in the neighborhood to do it. By the time I was a senior a bunch of people were doing. It was fun while it lasted and the tattoos are a happy reminder of that time
There’s a YT video where someone took this dance clip and set it to the sped up version of Misfits’ Last Caress. It fits really well.
Being a music business nerd, I lost my damn mind when I found out how successful Bil Haley was. 25 million copies sold. Lead guitar player was paid $31 for the recording session
Mom is 83 and used to watch her and dad jitterbug when I was a kid…
Bill Haley was always what I imagined Charlie Brown’s hair would look like if he was real
WHEN I WAS IN L.A. I took some west coast swing classes and went to some swing nights at Trader Vic’s.
There were some quite elderly guys there, decked out in zoot suits – I would have guessed in their 70’s – and the girls loved dancing with them because they were so damn good.
They couldn’t do the acrobatic stuff anymore, but they were super smooth, knew how to lead, and how to improvise and flow with a partner.
I started swing dancing twenty years ago at age 40. I encourage anyone to try learning even if you think you have two left feet.
Looks like they’re having a great time.
That’s called Lindy Hop, a type of East Coast swing, and it’s still practiced in groups in many major cities. Look up your local group!
That poor girl at the end there.
She received one elbow in the back.
Ouch….

I’m 72 and twice a granddad. These folks could be MY parents.
And they are cool.
…its called swing dancing.
Had a resurgence in the late 90s thanks to the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Brian Setzer Orchestra & Big Bad voodoo Daddy. Those were fun times.
