First world champion from continental Europe and what a talent! Congrats Luca!
Massive achievement and played in such an exciting manner.
The 4th non UK player to win the title, and the other 3 were Australian, Canadian and Irish, which culturally obviously are not too far away from the UK, so the first real “outside” country winner is big big news, hope it helps increase the sports popularity elsewhere somewhat.
On his way, he defeated 3 players with 14 championships between them. Absolutely insane.
I do like snooker, but I must admit I don’t watch every tournament that goes off in the season. I do watch the world championships though. I will say I was one of the ones to write Luca off early in the championship. He’s not old by any means but for years he’s been a bit of a what if player. Could’ve gone far in the Crucible but never quite being able to. Really happy that he’s been able to go the whole way and win it. First mainland European to win is a big big deal in a very very extremely British and Irish led sport.
Yesss Luca! Big win surrounded by british supporters. Hope there are more world cup wins in your future
Genuinely delighted for him, a worthy champion.
Also surprised that the first winner from outside the Anglosphere was from Belgium rather than China.
Probably the best WSC I’ve ever watched, thanks in no small part to Brecel and Si’s exciting play.
Now there’s a face that illustrates the sound of the word “snooker”
Absolutely amazing! He played in such a positive way but then somehow managed to basically equal Selby in the safety battles.
Truly incredible – I can’t remember a better world championship in decades possibly ever and I’ve been watching since 84.
I just hope he can continue as he’s such a breath of fresh air.
Oh an thas a bad miss
He beat Mark Selby, the toughest Crucible player ever, to do it. What a talent Luca is, pulls off shots that nobody else can.
