“Blue Monday” by New Order, 1983. Perhaps the greatest and most influential new wave song ever released. 40 years old, and sounds fresher than most music made today.

You’re definitely in the wrong sub. And I love Blue Monday, but it doesn’t sound fresh lmao. It’s literally a remedial jam session on an old drum machine.
I don’t get it. This song is nothing special to me. Glad you enjoy it!
I’m with you OP. New Order is awesome. I can’t believe it’s been 40 years. My introduction to them began with Technique so I’m partial to that album and Technique is my favorite song but Blue Monday is great too. New Order has some of the best driving music imo.
Gotta say, as someone who grew up with the Orgy version I have to say I prefer it over the original, but the original is definitely still a banger.
hmm that sweet sweet bass
🚨 stone Cold jam alert 🚨
They are no Roy Donk, that’s for sure.
I have the 12” of this in the floppy sleeve somewhere.
My girlfriend at the time thought the Orgy version was better..
We are no longer together.
Junior year at university when this came out – Joy Division morphs to New Order. Music was interesting late 70s and 80s.
Music is dead now from what is on radio now. Sad.
Its a good song but I wouldn’t call it fresh. It very quintessentially 80s.
If you like this you should try Boy Harsher, I suggest *Boy Harsher – Lost* as a good introduction
One of the greatest dance records ever made. It was painstakingly sequenced on hardware long before DAWs were invented and apparently there’s a slight mistake somewhere. They went to tremendous lengths at the mixing and mastering stage to ensure that it sounded right on club sound systems. It was the biggest selling 12” single of all time.
Definitely cool, and surely revolutionary for its time.
Can’t agree with fresher/better than most music made today. The tools used now are exponentially more powerful and flexible.
played always as a closer in the weekly Wednesday club night, the memories! nearly every wednesday for 3 years

This song is boring and not very good
I would completely agree. I’ll never forget hearing this song for the first time in college. Having grown up in a rural area that never played anything like this, I felt my whole world changed. Still one of my absolute favorites today, 40 years later!
My partner is 5 years older than me. Also lived in the UK and I was in NZ. Our music tastes connect at Blue Monday. There are way worse options for connecting music
Confusion is such a great song, too. Discovered through the movie Blade
Anybody disregarding this song as catchy or modern, I dare you to not bob your head to Age Of Consent
Kraftwerk sample!
A literal masterpiece.
I have a 2 year old that loves this song. The video on YouTube has moving colors and never had an ad at the beginning
Great song.
Joy Division > New Order.
Don’t get me wrong- New Order is fine. They were an important band but Joy Division was something else. I can only imagine what they might have done if Ian was still around.
