  • I had one removed years ago from my foot. It had been there for years. It wasn’t until I dropped something on my foot that it dislodged the needle and caused pain and swelling. I was surprised and bewildered as to how it even got there in the first place.

  • EDIT 1: Jus cuz there have been a lot of comments,

I should’ve added context but r/pics doesnt allow sub-bodies of text and Im busy today :p

Ive never broken a bone (that I know of) and have never been taking to the doctor for anything foot related ever due to that shit possibly being expensive

Ive since gotten insurance after getting in a car wreck and had an xray due to me thinking I broke my foot and they spotted the needle then

The only time I couldve stepped/had a needle enter my foot was when I was little I remember hurting my foot and it bleeding beside the sewing machine and my grandma telling me I must’ve stepped on a needle. We searched the area and came to the conclusion that it was either deeper in the carpet or we jus couldnt find it

Say what you wanna say, call me stupid all you’d like, but I genuinely forgot and just assumed the pain was nerve pain or something of the like bc I just didn’t care enough to go to the hospital over something that was likely nothing

Now that I know it’s there I can say it definitely “hurts” more but it’s probably just placebo and we’re planning on removing it soon so when it’s out Ill update this post
EDIT 2: I may be the stupidest man in the world, my left foot legitimately has a bubble on that side while the right doesn’t ☠️
How did I ever think this was normal 😭😭

  • My wife found one after it snapped and caused extreme pain a few years back. Doctors said it had likely been in there since she was a kid (20+ ish years). Once removed her metal allergy that had plagued her lessened a ton.

  • When I was around 10 years old, my parents were ripping out the carpet from their house and I stepped on a thin nail that had been sticking out of the floor. I looked down and I couldn’t not find the nail, so my parents took me to the hospital. I went though tests for hours for the doctor to tell me it must have fallen out at some point. Cue almost a decade later, I started college and was working out everyday. Eventually, I started noticing a bump in between my toes and it slowly got bigger over a week. I soaked my foot in epsom salt but it only made it bigger. So a few days later, I was squatting over the toilet and all of the sudden I see this giant piece of metal shoot out of the boil on my foot like it was wolverine’s claw or a switchblade. I pulled the rest of it out to surprisingly no pain, and there was the nail.

  • My grandfather had a needle in his foot for 60 odd years. He had been a fire fighter and guessed that he picked it up in the course of his work. Learned about it in an unrelated Xray in his 90’s.

  • Years ago my ex girlfriend found a full size construction grade staple in lower back while giving me a massage (she pulled it out with a screw driver) . To this day I have no idea how it got there.

  • There are lots of stories out there like this. People have an injury of some sort (particularly when they’re young) and then forgot. They assume the pain is something else. Never get it looked at. I remember a chick I went to school with, felt a lump in her boob. Panicked thinking she had breast cancer. Then found out it was a splinter she likely got playing in trees as a kid. It sat there for years and was only discovered when it got infected years later. Weird but true.

  • My father had an accident a few years ago while cutting wood and had an x-ray of his hand done to make sure the bone was good and it also showed a piece of a car bearing sharpnel that he got hit with while replacing bearings in his car several years earlier.

  • Had almost the exact thing happen when I was a kid. Bumped my knee lightly and then couldn’t bend it without pain. X-ray showed a needle next to my kneecap. Eventually, it stopped hurting, and I forgot about it. 5 years later, it just poked through the skin so I pulled it out.

  • I think I have this too. Doesn’t happen often but when my foot is at just the correct angle and stretch I feel something rubbing against my tendons inside.
I stepped on and snapped a needle almost 2 decades ago. Found the back end of the needle, snapped about half way. Figured the pointy bit is still in there.
It doesnt hurt, just feels weird when it happens and I change my stance to get around it.
I leave him in there, not causing any major issues.

  • When you grow up with something, it becomes normal. Someone born without arms isn’t normal, but not having arms is their normal. Wouldn’t call yourself stupid over this
