Well if that doesn’t give you goosebumps you’re not alive
The 10th anniversary is still my favorite staging of the show, the cast was perfect! Grew up watching it on VHS 👏
I watched this just the other day. I had just watched the film again for about the 20th time the night before too.
They were really the dream cast…
The goosebumps literally started on my scalp and slowly sank to my toes… I saw Les Mis on Broadway with opera-trained country star Gary Morris, and it was truly thrilling.
Colm is simply on another level.
Epic.
Now that’s what I’m talking about
Colm just IS this role. Since I was a child, I’ve been singing these songs with his accent. On the negative side, though, I have difficulty enjoying him singing other iconic roles, like when he was the Phantom. I hate that about myself, but it is also a testament to how phenomenal he was in this role.
Proud of Lea Salongga.
I do not see how the 10th anniversary cast could EVER be topped – pure perfection.
I had this on VHS
Goosebumps every time
I had to stop everything to sing along (and do different voices for every character, obviously). Still haven’t figured out how to sing every part when they all sing at the same time, but I’ll get there one day.
I don’t know what’s happening here but…WOW!
This is the single greatest performance of any live song I’ve ever heard. I remember watching this a million times as a kid with my parents. The whole cast was unreal but colm Wilkinson stole the show.
Fun fact, javert makes a mistake during this song and gets the lyrics wrong.
I remember watching this in my middle school music class around 1997 and was completely blown away and engrossed with it.
This was certainly not something I would have otherwise been interested in as a typical middle school Aged kid in the late 90s but it was so incredible and quite honestly changed my life in terms of what musical theater and theater in general was like.
This was perfect. I’ve watch this particular show too many times to count.
Perfection. Goosebumps.
That was breathtaking! I love a good musical.
Awesome. I saw Lea Salonga on Broadway the first week she started doing Fantine.
She was epic. She also seemed to slide into some crowd scenes early on? Or so it seemed to me.
The stage bearing the unbearable weight of massive talent
Still gives me chills.
Best cast/edition imo. The 25th anny at o2 was excellent but this one for me is the ultimate cast.
He originated the role for the musical. He owns the role. I was really happy to see he had a role in the movie when it came out.
There’s a story in one of the books that cover the creative process of the musical. The cast was brought together for one of the first musical rehearsals. Wilkinson does “Bring Him Home” and after he finishes, one of the producers says to another: “I told you that this story was about God.” Someone else answered, “Yeah, but you didn’t say you engaged him for the part.”
Is this the concert where they had the international cast come out to sign pets if one of the songs? I think it may have been all of the Jean Valjeans.
Did not expect to see Alun from New Tricks singing in something like this.
Really like this concert. It was one of my favorites when I was commuting to collage. Also completed Sweeney Todd and Hamilton several times that year.
Oh fuck ya!! Stoked to see this on here, we’ll done OP. Come back to this once a year every year, one of the best vocal performances you’ll ever hear in my opinion. I got the goosebumps before it even started!!
Colm’s performance of who am I….🤯
246 Oh WOOOOOOOONNNN-NEH!!!!!!!
This is the definitive stage performance
Colm Wilkinson still gives me chills.
This triggers extremely specific memory: this exact taping of this show was a preview before my VHS copy of Riverdance.
I saw this cast on Broadway in 1987. One of my friends had to go see this for a class he took (Rutgers) and I went with. It was amazing.
Gets me every friggin time
