In my opinion, this is the peak in terms of gaming. “All Ghillied Up” from Call of Duty Modern Warfare

That and the Spectre gunship. All I need.
The peak? Nah, amazing scene and level? Absolutely, hell yeah, iconic.
It’s definitely the peak of Call of Duty, but the peak of gaming? Play more games.
It’s certainly a mission I remember almost more than any other on any other game. In terms of the beats it hits, the whole thing is very iconic. The initial engagements, hiding in the grass as the tanks and people roll over you, the Coriolis effect. I also like how a bunch of the locations are based on real places I’ve then seen in real media around Chernobyl.
I also used to make CoD4 montages as a kid and would fly round the map to get cinematics, so possibly that’s the reason it’s etched into my mind as much as it is.
It’s just nostalgia. While it was an iconic level for those who originally experienced it, by today’s standards, it’s a very standard shooting/stealth segment.
I agree 100%
12 year old me nearly shit a brick when the guys walk past you and Macmillan
Your actions have gotten Captain Macmillan killed
Ah yes, and Mountain Dew Code Red is the peak of culinary perfection.
That was a good level, but I’d have to say Pegasus Bridge in the original Call of Duty was better. After taking the bridge, the next morning you have to defend it against a concerted attack by German armor, and you’re running back and forth lugging Panzerfausts as your position’s getting more and more precarious and the music is swelling to a crescendo and you get reinforced at the last possible moment… that was a really impressive piece of gaming storytelling, especially for the time. (We all thought the D-Day level of the original Medal of Honor was some hot shit when it came out.)
I usually hate stealth missions but even I liked this one.
I remember playing it during Christmas break like sophomore year of high school. Good times
Going from cod3 to this was also a huge jump in graphics
you must have never played Lego Island 2. you play as Pepper Roni, son of a local pizza shop owner, delivering pizza on your skateboard. When you deliver an extra spicy pizza to the brickster in prison, it is so hot, he starts breathing fire and melts the prison bars. you then have to chase him through all kinds of lego island worlds and stop him…. by throwing pizza at him.
Also you scream WWwwwoooHoooo when you jump on the skateboard.
Obviously just reading the story, i can feel that you are hooked!..
Jokes aside tho, the level is pretty great! peak gaming? disagree. But rightfully beloved by everyone.
No way! Not for me. Great level but should play more games.
You need to olay more games.
I miss this call of duty so much. I wish we could go back to it. Mw mw2 black ops was peak for me and no call of duty now can even come close to it
Tell me that you only play call of duty without mentioning the peak of gaming is “All Ghillied Up”.
As time goes on, I tend to appreciate far more the missions that capture the same level of awe without having to be as heavily scripted.
For example, give me the Warthog Run in Halo 1 and Halo 3 any day over All Ghillied Up, as much as I love All Ghillied Up. Or the dragon fight above Mount Lanayru in Breath of the Wild. Or the first time going to Space Junk Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy. Or the final boss of Dark Souls 1.
Or somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, like the final mission of The Last Of Us 1.
To me, it’s the mixture of awe and your own agency to get there that really brings it home for me.
Look at this place. Fifty thousand people used to live in this city. Now it’s a ghost town.
I remember playing Day Z, when it was the arma alpha mod.
The ghillie suits made you virtually invisible if you kept to the right terrain.
I had a group that had hidden tents all over the map, stocked with as50’s, ammo, ghillie suits, and proper side arms…as well as a few assault rifles and mags.
We didn’t even need gps or maps to find them because we had the HUGE map memorized and we each had our list with the names of each “hub” that’d we’d made up so we could talk without people knowing.
We’d swap out our “gathering” load out to our “hunting” load out (the ghillies) and then use a Huey to get dropped off somewhere a few clicks out from where we wanted to be.
We even made a “helicopter park” where we had tents filled with spare parts, gas, glass, metal…just to repair helicopters. It was waaaay out in the northwestern part of the map, a small clearing just big enough to drop a Huey in and miles from regular player activity.
Those were fun times.
You’re late, April Fools was yesterday.

OP are you absolutely sure this was peak gaming from that year?
Wow, what a unique post!
OP woke up and decided to get some easy karma.
Sidebar: Ghilli suits are fucking terrifying. I played paintball a few years ago and I was walking as stealthily as I could towards the enemy flag base. I hear a voice whisper to me from the side and suddenly one of my team mates in a ghilli suit just materializes out from the bushes. I almost shat myself in absolute terror.
