I’ve never heard of this neighborhood before. Can someone share details?
I love how there are so many grove streets in san fransisco
Just looked this up, houses go for 1.5-4m and that body of water does not connect to the sea 😂
Fascinating that on google maps there isn’t one single vessel active on the water. Assume there are strict hours of operation and these images are outside those hours. That makes me a little sad cause it looks like a beautiful day.
As someone who likes people centric urban city planning… “what a fucking nightmare”. Imagine needing to drive 5-15 minutes to visit a neighbor who lives like 100 ft from you.
Why do I want to play city skylines after looking at this? When I start a new game I always envision a beautiful landscape like this but somehow always create something more akin to Compton.
I bet those homes are reasonably priced.
Not SF
*edit while flying into the San Francisco Airport, I enjoyed this view.
Holy smokes, all; I just liked the view while on the plane. 💯
Apologies for the confusion 🫣
Omg this is Foster City – I use to live here
I grew up on the Peninsula in the 1960s. I remember San Francisco radio personality, Don Sherwood, regularly decrying the “filling in” of the bay, Foster City being one of his dire warnings at the time.
I just remember it always being very windy there.
FWIW they built it this way so they could market as many “waterfront properties” as possible.
For a while, I lived in an apartment facing the actual SF Bay, and that was pretty nice. You could walk along paths through the marshes and see the birds and such.
This, OTOH, looks like some sort of nightmare.
Looks to me like the lagoon that used to house Marine World Africa USA before they moved to Vallejo.

I could be wrong, but it was in that general area that we used to watch the water ski show and ride the “Safari Boats” with the animal print pontoons.
This was all landfill into the bay in the 50s/60s. Oddly enough, they were one of the few cities still putting on a fireworks show before I left the area. Was a great show over the water, but getting out of there afterward was a total cluster as you need to take one of a couple bridges over the bay back to terra firma.
Isn’t this where the old marine world was, hence the water ways?
Last time i flew into SF I noticed this town as well. I live in the bay, but have probably been to foster city like once ever.
That would be Foster City. Lived there for almost 30 years. We raised our daughter. Great schools (mostly), safe as can be. Was a wonderful place in the nineties and early 2000s, but as is typical for urban development and greedy local government, it became a traffic nightmare with a great deal of questionable development decisions.
This is one of few truly successful planned communities of the day (built in the 70’s.) there are books written about the design process.
The top water area (green area on right, all-white condos on left) is Leo Ryan Park, named after the San Mateo congressman Leo Ryan,
The congressman went to Guyana to investigate the Reverend Jim Jones, who ended up killing him with machine gun fire, and forcing approximately 1000 people to drink poisoned kool-aid.
Our current congressional representative, Jackie Speir was Leo Ryan’s congressional aide, present on that trip to Ghana when he was gunned down on an airstrip.
It kind of reminds me of the way people draw Atlantis
At a glance, looks like Foster City to me.
Prior to becoming a professional pilot I worked for Visa. I had an office in their building overlooking the San Mateo bridge. It gave me a great view of the arrivals to 28L and 28R at SFO.
Now when I fly past that building I gently rock the wings and winder who’s in that office now.
How much are the homes off the water? 2.2 million?
It’s like a modern day Atlantis
Don’t go to the back yard!
This looks similar to the description of Atlantis that Plato described
Were there pools of water that were weird colors? I flew over that same spot back in like…2014 or something, and I swear some of the water was purple.
Stayed in Foster City back in September for my aunt’s wedding. Nice area!
FUCK FUCK FUCK THIS IS ACTUALLY WHERE I LIVE WHAT THE HELL
Huh never seen Foster City from that angle
“Yes I live in Atlantis, San Francisco, California. Why?”
Damn that’s a nice view
I remember seeing a similar view when I was landing in 1985. I was moving here as a teen with my family and was surprised that we’d be living next to the water (assuming most neighborhoods were like that). Alas, we lived in Fremont.
not only can I see my sister’s house in this photo, I can see her car parked in her driveway.
I lived in an apartment in the water outside of Foster City. My company paid me to live there back in 99-01, I could not have afforded it. Great area. Lots of good food and shopping.
In a city with some of the most sunny days on the planet, it seems there are surprisingly few solar panels on any of these multi-million dollar houses…
Dang. Panem capital vibes. Flying into SFO next week, wonder if I’ll see it
That’s either redwood shores or foster city.
Holy shit the utter car dependency, this is horrible
file under r/urbanhell ?
Suburban Hell
Just scrolled though and I can’t believe no one has mentioned this…. I grew up in San Mateo but Foster City used to house Fashion Island Shopping mall which was a kick ass shopping mall back in the early 80’s. On one side of the mall there was a movie theater and later a huge arcade and adjacent, inside the mall was a big ice skating rink surrounded by a food court! Lots of memories there!!! I watched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom there when it was new in theater, I almost choked and died on a cheese pizza at the Sabarro’s there in the mall and used to watch Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi skate there… good times. By the 90’s it was a barren waste land.
Looked like the Millenium falcon for a sec
Foster City?
I’ve flown into SFO about 100x from NY. I don’t ever remember seeing this. Haven’t flown in in 20 years tho
Kinda one way in and out of Foster City. Pre gps people new to the area would always stop and ask how to get the fuck out.
