Every year? That’s pretty good. I have to replace mine every couple months… and that’s if I stretch it
How much you walk each day on average? I didn’t change my shoes in 2 years with about 7km a day and they still look fine
Merrells? I love mine (2 pairs), hope they last longer than a year.
Whew, I’m glad you told us which one was the old one.
Ha, those look like the MOABS I’m wearing.
So what job do you do?
From the wear pattern I’d at look up a condition called supination. The weight of your body isn’t being evenly distributed meaning you’ll eventually, or may feel already, pain in your ankles and outer part of your lower legs. Try a pair of insoles designed to combat it, you’ll feel less pain when you walk and, as the weight will be more evenly distributed, the wear will also be more even and your shoes will last longer.
Should get a walking assessment through a sports therapist/kinesiologist OP.
Very niiice.
I see you have a dog at home! 😀 Them hairs go everywhere!
The Vibram label is undamaged. They should use that material for the whole sole
You need a good pair of wedge sole boots, head over to either r/workboots or r/Goodyearwelt that way once the boot is broken in you only need to replace the sole every year. I got a pair of Carolina wedge shoes they are super comfortable
I wish my job involved walking.
Moab 2. Great shoe I have about 5 or 6 as worn. The shoes hold up great you’ll wear the rubber off them before anything fails.
I’d transfer to a shoe with a Goodyear welt and just have them resoled every year.

What’s your job? I’d love to be paid to walk miles.
You might want to research some road running shoes which are designed to deal with concrete pavements. But you do you. Depending on the cost a cobbler could re-sole something more durable.
Based on your comment where you say walk 16km a day, I’d say those shoes have held up incredibly well!
The average shoe is designed to last around 300-500 miles or 480-800km. Which means you’d be replacing them every two months or so. Once a year is a great deal.
You should be buying new ones every 3-6 months. You can write off work boots (2 pair) a year
Why you always buy new ones ? Just get new soles attached.
I have had my vibram soles replaced on boots which fit me perfectly (plus some other minor works+new inlets) all in all 70€
That’s way cheaper than new shoes
I feel this. I walk 8 to 12.5 miles daily for my job. Every 4 to 6 months for me (depending on quality of shoe.)
My last job required me to walk around 20 miles every day. It was so satisfying every year when I’d replace my shoes
Merrells are the best shoe..
Got to be a postie
You should really consider changing your shoes out every 6 months.
Ya OP, you really shouldn’t be using these shoes for the job you have. They’re cool shoes, but they’re just not the right shoes for pavement and hard surfaces. They probably are comfy, but a lot of comfy stuff is bad for you in the long run.
Nothing says “politics” like an image of two shoes
You really need to stop hopping on one foot.
Long live Merrells, comfiest walking shoes ever.
I think if I were you I’d replace twice a year, if you can manage it.
Tread carefully
I think those Vibrams can be replaced. So if the upper is fine, a cobbler could replace the sole. Also, these are hiking shoes, not sure if you’re hiking variable, rocky terrain, but if it’s flat asphalt or cement, the tread will wear out faster due to its design’s intent.
Merrell Moabs? I love mine.
