The 80s ‘party’ was all light and fun, misogynistic a bit, and about the excess as an entertaining circus. The 90s ‘party’ was darker. The grunge and such was more heroin than coke, and the rocknroll turned into heavy metal. IMO, seriously heavy bands like Pantera, Slayer, etc killed 80s rock more than the grunge scene, which was really just a new version of punk rock breaking through into the 90s.
80s ‘metal’ was pretending be heavy. 90s metal actually was. Music became more real and less about showmanship.
