Oh man, I remember playing the shit out of that back in the day. I want to say it was on this windows ’95 machine that my mom had gotten, so you can imagine how framey it must’ve been, but at the time it was fucking awesome!
I ran a Quake server out of my office in the Student Union building when I was in university. The building had a T1 connection at the time. So many good times.
Dude, enjoy. When you’re finished, you NEED to play [Arcane Dimensions](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXI76-P_olw). It allows quakespasm to do things Quake was never able to do. The levels are massive and absolutely gorgeous.
Quake was my intro to online gaming, well, the prerelease of Quake, called QTest. My online gaming experience pretty much stopped with Quake too. Back in the day, the reaperbot or whatever aimbots that dipshits used took the fun out of it, especially when you had a 220+ ping on a good day.
I recently found that in the updated version Bethesda put out a couple years ago, the multiplayer, local play, with no other players but 7 bots is fun as hell. No lag and a near genuine multiplayer experience, minus the shit talking.
The feeling of shooting the ground near another player in multiplayer with a rocket, while they are shooting rockets, and bouncing them into a wall so they shoot a rocket into a wall and kill themself is something that never stops bringing me joy.
Also, the single player expansions are all pretty good. But you have to play on nightmare, which now maxes out at 50% health. In addition to those, the add-ons are pretty well made, too. The upgraded package I got on steam was a pretty good deal.
I know this game was difficult for id and broke up the old team, but Doom was never really anything to me, since I didn’t have a PC till college in 95, and this was the work of a genius, turning 1s and 0s into a three dimensional world. Not like duke nukem or doom, where everything was sprite based.
Quake and Duke Nukem 3D was my genesis of online game. Must be great to be able to play it again

We ran the rune mods for a little added fun.

I’m surprised Quake hasnt seen a reboot yet, like Doom did in 2016.
I still have my original Quake CD stored safely.
Nine Inch Nails Sound traxk was great to play along but Metallica worked great as well

Ok, I’m going to go play some quake now.
Quake 4 was the shit – wish they remade that one for Series.
I misread your title and was really confused how Quake 1D would work. Pretty sure a one dimensional FPS wouldn’t be fun
The Well of Wishes lies in the Crypt of Despair.
The Dopefish lives!
I only work in brown, or very dark shades of grey.
Don’t use explosives on shambler, I’m an idiot.
Godspeed!
How do you get ready?
