Great movie, the opening scene when Conan’s father is forging the sword is one of the best in film. That was what real life was like once. Living on your own land, making your own things, living in a community that mattered. Not like today, when we’re all cogs in a machine.
Just hit the start button, been years since I watched it.. the filming locations are absolutely stunning. I’m gonna have to check out the remake to see if it comes close….
The 80’s started off so strong with fantasy movies. As a young person, I thought we’d see half a dozen more that would keep topping each other. But instead, we got low-budget knockoffs that never stood a chance or Hollywoodized versions where it was all about the stars and less about the fantasy world.
It’s criminal that we never got a proper Dragonlance trilogy, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser movie(s) or a Drizzt movie considering how popular those series/characters were.
Both Willow and Dark Crystal are objectively better films. Conan has a great villain, an amazing soundtrack, some quotable dialogue, and Schwarzenegger on beefcake form, but as a film it’s laboured.
Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. And into this, Conan, destined to wear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure…
Excalibur (1980) by John Boorman would like to have a word.
Who said “CROM” in Arnold voice lol
And if you do not agree, then to HELL with you!
Still my favorite movie score
“The greatest 80s family Film Ever” reads like “60% of the time, it works every time”
But yes, Conan is great
Yeah but The Beastmaster was re-run on cable like three times a day.

[and it gave birth to an amazing musical too ](https://youtu.be/OBGOQ7SsJrw)
I dare to say it was the more “Conan-ic” movie from all 3, taking material from original source, and looking more like the classic comic Conan.

(That one guy with the Krull t-shirt)
Love it! This is my one of my all time favourite films.
The soundtrack also completely FUCKS!
Someone hasn’t seen The Barbarians
“To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.”
Personal The Beastmaster was the best!

This is a great awesome film but Boorman’s Excalibur beats it.

Are they using a potato as a microphone?
Be nice to get this one in 4K honestly.

2. Willow
3. Red Sonja
The Barbarians was ok too 😄
