  • Personally I love *Caligula*, even the unrated “unsimulated oral sex scenes shown in real time that have nothing to do with anything” version. Hey, perfect for a movie night and great way to thin out your circle of friends.

But this re-cut is fascinating. I was aware there movie had been heavily butchered, but didn’t know there was enough footage to resurrect the original vision. I’m very interested to see this.

  • Love this movie but god I wish it didn’t have all the 70s era porn in it. I don’t actually need to see penetration and money shots to have it conveyed there’s an orgy happening.

But there’s a lot of creativity at work, and some great performances if you can get past that stuff.

But even if you assembled the perfect cut of Caligula it’ll never match Satyricon when it comes to creative visions of ancient Rome.

  • Oh, good! I’m always looking for an excuse to foist this on unsuspecting people: [the unused disco love theme from Caligula](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sEMRAoMhf0), distributed by Penthouse Records (the unimpeachable mark of quality) and featuring lyrics penned by Bob Guccione’s daughter (“We are one/We come from the same fatheeeeer…”). Play it on Valentine’s Day, or at your wedding reception, or at the very end of a fancy dinner party when you feel you’d like everyone to go home now.
