US Railroads should be nationalized

  • Frame it as competition with china to get the neoliberals and conservatives on board. Their high speed rail network and subway systems are pretty amazing.

Its quite an experience as an American to use Chinese transportation. Fly into the airport, take a subway from the airport to the train station, get on high speed rail and go to another city, hop on the subway from that city’s train station to your hotel.

Never once getting in a car or needing to use cash.

  • It would be a good idea but the US government is way too corrupt to make this happen. As someone who rides the NYC subway everyday it is unreliable, every project they do is way overbudget and over schedule (i.e. the new LIRR stop) and it is very poorly run. In countries like stated in the video you need to pass rigorous tests to work there, here its where you work when you want an easy job with decent pay

  • Scale. We have states that are larger than most European countries. It’s easy to build a nationalized railway system when your nation is the size of Connecticut.

Metro to Metro rail systems would only make since in America in the select few regions where there are other nearby large cities. No one is taking a passenger train (except for a scenic view vacation) across the vast expanse that is the US.
