That’s a spear thrown by a giant from the tower behind you. It’s ok though, you can befriend him later and he will only throw spears at the bad guys.
Possibly an ice fishing hole of some sort. Common practice when done fishing is to put branches/logs into the hole so it is easily identified / spotted by others traveling the ice.
Is it a lake or a river? If there is current I would guess it got stuck on a rock or something and the current made it go up and thru the ice when the ice was new and thin.
