Black Mesa is better.
Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven is one of my favorite games. I could not get myself to finish the definitive edition. Absolutely hated the cover mechanic. It all just felt so generic.
I played the original and really liked it, but the remake seemed to have super clunky controls. Maybe it was like that in the original too, I don’t remember, but compared to modern control standards it did seem subpar.
Whenever I see the word remake now . I only think about Max Payne games that are being remade .. how much wait !?? I honestly cry everytime I play them from nostalgia.
This game pissed me off so much, the fact they made an amazing open world, but then there was no open world features, side quests, or even very much to do, was such a disappointment, bravo on the map designers, shame on whoever limited this game from potentially being the next RDR2.
Awesome game, doesn’t feel like the original Mafia at all though, it feels like a different thing. Just give me the original game with modern day graphics but keep the damn missions the same, I don’t want these re-imaginations that are weaker than what was there. I definitely don’t need stupid turret shootout sequences when there’s no need for one etc. It’s such a very very different vibe.
Yeah they brought the fun of 3 to this and it was executed greatly. I didn’t play anything else until I beat this. Started up Mafia 2 thinking it got the same treatment….was disappointed lol
I finished this game recently and frequently caught myself marvelling at its presentation. The story was really engaging, but unfortunately… {MINOR SPOILER ALERT}

I did not see the point of free roam after completing story mode, given how it ends.
It’s a good remake but failed to capture the OG version as it was.
Tons of things felt off or just didn’t get it right.
#1 – music while travelling through the city was just car radio like GTA. very generic.
The old game had an amazingly fitting soundtrack which they should’ve kept.
#2 – the voice actors felt wrong. Tommy already had a gangster-like voice before entering the mafia, this made his character a little simple. Pauly and the other guy also didn’t feel authentic anymore while i really enjoyed paulie’s voice acting.
#3 – shooting was weird. Never experienced it like this before, but every gun was highly inaccurate
Black Mesa imo
Okay I will bite:

Whats the best remake?
Wasn’t this famously broken at launch and often unplayable on many people’s PCs?
It looks good sure but from what I heard of fans of the original this was a very disappointing remake experience with loads of unused potential.
I’d say REmake is better than the Mafia remake lmao
I hate that they cut the endgame content where you go around finding unique cars.
Yep, and beating that race is still a pain in the ass
I would say the Yakuza Kiwami games.
Mafia Definitive Edition still didn’t fix the racing mission.
Just downloaded it on PS5 for free. I can’t believe I never tried it, it’s an awesome game.
Too bad it never got a next gen update

love the remake but i wish it would have kept the wheel support the original had
I wasn’t a fan of the new voice actors, since I was so used to the original voices. But yeah, the remake both looks and plays amazing!
I’ve never actually played it before, but I just bought the trilogy a couple weeks ago with a gift card. Looking forward to playing it at some point.
Ahh yes, remade with love

Holy shit, a game post with an actual title in it??
World-class masterpiece.
I hate to be that guy, but is this mafia definitive edition?

Can’t wait for Gothic…

Really wish Sleeping Dogs would have a remake too.
Love it to death but no
Not if you played the original im affraid
It’s a terrible remake honestly, it strips everything that made the original so immersive and just went with a overly simplified version of it.
resident evil 2???
No it’s not. They made the game worse compared to the original Mafia. Only graphically it’s an upgrade. Gameplay wise not at all.
