The word genius gets thrown around too easily but it’s hard not to use it when referring to Andy. He blurs the line between comedic act and authentic personality so much that you realize they can be one and the same.
Also, dig the long format of Johnny’s show. I wish we could train our attention spans to be more receptive to things like this again.
Didn’t find the performance very funny, but I did find it enlightening. The massage parlor part reminded me of Borat, and the last act reminded me of Jim Carrey. I wouldn’t be surprised if both took some inspiration from him.
Way before my time and yet absolutely relevant 50 years later. I love how you never know whether he’s joking, being half serious, or completely honest. You are left guessing and not knowing what’s next. The drums song starts as what could actually be a song from some far away place and then descends into a farse but while he’s still playing what could be ok drumming. Is he joking? Is he not funny but trying? Is he serious? Is it a mix and a continuous moving from one to the other? Any other stand up act you know from the first word until the last that’s all supposed to be comedy, with Kaufman you have no idea what’s going on at any time, let alone in 5 seconds. I love it!
Deffo not for me. Everyone has different tastes. Some like the beatles, some don’t same with classical music and everything else.
Deffo NOT a genius is my opinion and can’t hold a candle to the likes of early Chappelle, Eddie izzard, Pryor, Murphy, or Bill burr.
But like any art, it’s subjective. I personally think he’s shit and would have walked out to the nearest bar to get a beer if brought to a show of his

I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen Andy Kaufman break character.
I feel Andy is still alive. Don’t know why…
He’s not my cup of tea. I can’t get through the impressions, and that first “joke” is pathetic.
Yeah. No.
I’ve honestly tried with this guy.
I guess the humor is just lost on me.
He’s cringy at all times and I guess that’s what he’s going for but it’s just not for me.

I was too old for And Kaufman but watched a lot of daxflame on youtube around 08. Watching this really gave me similar vides to dax.

When? He was never funny.
