This film isn’t remembered as well or as often as The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, but it is definitely the peak Leone (and western in general) for me. Every scene is intricately constructed, full of nuance, and infinitely rewatchable.
I have a theory on this. People who are huge spaghetti western fans usually think the good the bad and the ugly is no1 spaghetti western. People who are more general cinema fans (like myself) tend to think this is the no1.
I watched this movie for the first time last year and thought it was “meh” then I couldn’t stop thinking about the [this](https://youtu.be/QqTfBysL0wE) scene and had to go back and watch the whole movie. It’s easily one of my favorites now.
My biggest gripe with that flashback; assuming Harmonica is indeed the kid holding up his brother, he’s aged 30 years while Frank has aged a few years at most. If it was just a case of ‘they couldn’t de-age people back then’, why show Frank’s face at all? I mean, just show him from the back, his voice alone was distinctive enough.
I was pretty giddy while recognizing the homage in [Pirates](https://youtu.be/odITdWALhBY) back in the day. No one else in my theater caught it at the time
It’s a fantastic movie. Bookended by two great scenes: a duel and 3 people waiting on a train for 15 minutes seemingly in real time.
Nr. 1 movie for me
One of the greatest movie scenes ever. Definitely in the top 5 for me.
Iconic in all aspects
Might very well be the best Western ever made.
I love the guy casually munching a tomato(?) watching a very twisted hanging.

The end-end gets me every time. This movie is so completely perfect and hits on so many levels.
Keep your loving redditors happy, Harmonica
Best scene in movie history.
Watched it for the first time earlier this month. What an amazing piece of cinema.
I try not to overuse this word, but it really is a masterpiece.

The way they would mix the two characters themes together in the music was amazing.

Great movie! I was 10 and saw it at the Drive in with the family.
This is one of my top three favorite movies of all time. I LOVED this scene, so dramatic!

[Knights of Cydonia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNV9gv0NmzU) with harmonica opening.
Not just my favorite western but favorite movie of all time. It hits every note just right and at the right time.
