If Paul Simon hadn’t met Art Garfunkle
He did an interview on The Adam Friedland (comedian/podcaster) Show last month and it was fucking awesome. He even did that thing where he name-dropped famous artists who he’s worked with like every 5 minutes.
I remember this video from years ago.
What you’re looking at is a man actually arguing with his own sub conscious. No great artist or creative person needs to attack a street musician who may or may not be mediocre with “You’re nothing” over and over while name dropping Bob Dylan.
He’s the one who feels like a failure. He’s the one who feels like nothing.
Then why didn’t you wait a few months and change the title to “Trumpet Fight is 10 Years Old”?

It’s hilariously sad because he realizes he’s being filmed in the second half and starts hamming it up even more for the attention. That shit your parents tell you about bullies projecting their own insecurities on you is absolutely true. Calling the guy nothing and a nuisance then screaming and disturbing the peace after he’s walked away. This whole thing reminds me of that speech from Pixar’s Ratatouille:
“In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read.”
Turns out the voice in my head is an actual person
Show that man some respect. He lost his torso in the war so you could have your freedom.
When i start getting intrusive thoughts giving me negative self talk, I’m going to imagine it’s this person in my head

I think a lot of this guy’s rant is directed at himself, really. Maybe he was going through a really tough time in his life? And decided to take it all out on that guy playing the trumpet.

I wonder which suba that this angry person moderates.
This is like a living Master Shake bitching about trumpet sounds.
As a musician, I feel like this person is the physical manifestation of the negative voice we hear in our heads when we practice. He’s like a Neil Gaiman character.

This is legitimately one of the saddest videos. Clearly someone who at one point was very connected to the frontline of popular but also challenging music. His musical career didn’t pan out and that built up so much resentment in him that he hates anyone else enjoying music.
Die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
