Something doesn’t feel right with this. Don’t know how to word it either, but something just doesn’t feel right in my gut when comparing these clips to older Mel Brooks movies.
Times change and Im amazed Mel got a chance to make another movie. I just can’t shake this feeling something is wrong.
(Edit)
Been told it’s not a movie, but a TV show. That just makes me feel worse about this. Never was a fan of most comedy skit shows. They forgo the story or any meaning and just force things to be “funny”. Some worked, a lot did not.
Personally I prefer there to be a story to my movies or shows. Even “random” stuff like Loony Toons, Tom & Jerry, or those likes had a story to almost every episode. It was funny and entertaining. Mel’s movies, I simply loved most of them! He was able to make not only a great story but make the damned thing funny as hell without at the cost of the story. Robin Hood Men in Tights, SpaceBalls, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and more all put the story first and turned it into something more by adding humor. Sometimes dark, sexist, racial, or some other style that wouldn’t fly in todays world but it was all about the STORY and it improved that story by being there!
One scene of Blazing Saddles where the old lady says “Up yours Ni****” then cutting to the sheriff’s office where they was calling the town morons. That was very REAL, but at the same time one of the funniest scenes of the movie. The actors even seemingly broke character over it. Several of Mel’s movies are built like this. Real stories, made funny to enhance their story. Even something as simple as a single line like “It’s good to be the king” while looking dead at the camera works to further the story of the king being one of the biggest assholes in history.
THAT is what Im comparing this new show to! And so far it’s found wanting.
I desperately want this to be good, and I know trailers aren’t the full movie, but this doesn’t feel like history of the world, young Frankenstein, etc. Itf I didn’t know the title, is just assume this is some charity “get as many comedians as we can” program
I just listened to his autobiography read it by himself. His tasks in the second world war was to defuse booby traps left by the Germans. He said that even years after the war, every time he entered a bathroom in a restaurant or any new place where he hasn’t been before, he had to check the toilet cistern to be sure there was not a bomb ready to explode when he flush the toilet.
He and Sid Caesars basically invented the Saturday night live format with Your Show of Shows.
He had worked with several generations of comedians. The book started with names so old that I didn’t recognize, then he started to work with comedians closer to my generation and I started to recognize some of the names and then watching this trailer with all these current comedians makes me so happy.
Seems like all of the jokes are played to the camera. Certainly some of the jokes in the original were (When you die at the palace, you realy die at the palace), but I hope some of the stories are a bit longer and have some plot to them.
Fuck yeah. This might be Mel’s last movie and I’m sure as hell going to watch it.
should have skipped to part 3.
I was promised [Jews in Space](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAZhtT-dUyo).
Looks like Drunk History: The Movie

I am not a historian. Can someone familiar with the subject try to explain if this movie is accurate?

Mel Brooks is 96. He’s 96 and he’s still doing making movies.
This looks horrendous
It’s good to be the king.
It looks like a terribly cheap made for tv movie 🙁
I liked it.
Yikes, unfortunately not actually by Mel Brooks.
It’s a mini-series (8 episodes) of which Mel wrote one (or two) episodes.
That explains why it’s just a who’s who of random “stars” being thrown together.
Holy shit…woow
Nice. But the real Mel Brooks sequel we’re waiting for is Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.
I am super stoked for this. Mel Brooks has never let me down and wouldnt put his name on something he wasnt proud of.
please be good please be good please be good
Holy shit it’s real
And the journey continues for Spaceballs II: The Search for More Money.
I honestly did not think he would survive to this point after Carl Reiner died.
I’m so grateful to get one more project out of the legend.
Ughhh, this fells like Mel Brooks presents Drunk History.

What a life!
Oh, Piss-boy…
I love Mel Brooks, but this looks like the guys from Drunk History were willing to work cheap since they were cancelled. I hope that’s not the case.
As a huge fan of the first one (actually have a copy and watch it often) This is gonna suck!
That looks bad…
Seems like all of the jokes are played to the camera. Certainly some of the jokes in the original were (When you die at the palace, you realy die at the palace), but I hope some of the stories are a bit longer and have some plot to them.
Omg it’s finally not just a joke!
this looks both incredible and cheap… ?
Hmmmm, this sure sounds like SNL and not a Mel Brooks movie.
Looking forward to this but the production quality looks like an episode of Drunk History or some Discovery channel show?
Best news I’ve heard all week
