Awesome. Great track and solid band.
Never worked out how they made guitars sound like bagpipes! Tragic how Stuart Adamson left us. Some great singles.
I grew up on Big Country, always an amazing live show. I wanted to be Mark Brzezicki when I was learning drums; always played one or two covers in every gig I ever did when I grew up. Often finished with Porrohman because it got people involved.
My brother bought the album. We rocked the living room with this tune. Even mom and dad would get in on the action. Good times for sure.
In February 1984 was my to first trip to the UK and this LP, in red instead the most common in blue, was in my record bag.
Fun song.
Great song. Takes you back when you hear it
Great post! They created symphonies with guitars. The Seer album was an underrated masterpiece.
The bass line on this is so awesome.
Always loved this song. ✊🏽 In the 80’s, it just rang so loud and clear over the radio with so much spirit. This track is just undeniable.
The Tube was on Channel 4 wasn’t it?
Love to hear a bass isolate of this. Tony Butler is awesome.
One of my favorite road trip jams. Turned all the way up.
Great road trip song!
One of my all time favorite bands. Saw them a few times in NYC back in the 80’s. Saw them again just before the pandemic and they still give a great show!
Damn, I have this overwhelming urge to turn a floppy disk over in my Commodore disk drive, and spray some Aqua-Net in my hair.
Heard this on the way to work this morning. And yes, of course I blasted it, bopped in my seat, and belted out the lyrics at top volume. No, I didn’t care who saw or heard me.
Saw them March 25th 1984 in the Pan American Center, Las Cruces, New Mexico
It’s always nice to see live performances that are actually live performances.
RIP Stuart
That’s the fucking sound of a P-Bass. That growl kills.
Also if they had only named the album Big Country for the hat trick instead of The Crossing. Kind of a missed opportunity but still love the band and the song.
I still love the fuck out of this song.
Crazy that this was almost 40 years ago.
I got to tour with these guys for a few months as tour support (merch) back when they had their big hit. They were all really nice guys.
