8 years old when that happened, I remember being glued to the tv for pretty much the whole mission. I was even allowed to stay up past bedtime.
Coulda let that ride a couple more minutes. I was captivated
A movie very good at capturing the reality of the intensity of worldwide attention is Apollo 13.
From The Earth To The Moon is likewise a really good historical drama about the Apollo program.
What film/show is this
If you enjoyed this, you’ll probably enjoy the feature documentary ‘Apollo 11’ (2019), which like this has no voice over at all, just archive footage, some of which is unique, and some nicely restored. The edit is great at telling the story and the sound edit is great too. I’ve watched it several times and it gets me every time.
Like many dads and moms, my dad was an engineer and worked on the design of the boosters. I later got to work (not an engineer, but computer /data aspect) on the precursor to the ISS, the Freedom Space Lab. The Freedom Space Lab never fully materialized, but I remember eating lunch in the full scale mock up quite often.
I remember it well, the whole space program was incredible. The Apollo 11 mission was really a world wide event, and for once a good one.
Oldschoolcoolest.
What’s amazing is that there were people who got to see this on television who were born before television, radio, rockets, jets or even airplanes at all, and even automobiles.
to think the brick i’m watching this on is much more powerful than all that tech in that room… we’ve come quite a ways
this is history!
This is glorious. Thank you for posting it.
Literally the definition of old school cool. Wish I had been alive to see it.
