Seems to be based on distance, which is something that triggers LoD (level of detail) in practically every game. The further away you (the camera) are from objects, the less detail you can see, so more simpler models will be used to reduce rendering requirements.
That you are able to see this change so easily and so close seems to be an error. Distance for the simpler model is probably a factor 10 off.
That’s literally mario 64 lol
crossgen
God damn, we did better LoD models in college
Yikes city on this game
Inexcusable LOD transitions for a modern game.
Truly ahead of its time, putting two graphics in one game
/S
It’s called LOD (Level Of Detail – How many triangles the model has), when your camera gets a certain distance away from the model, it changes into a less detailed one. Usually you don’t notice, you can usually spot it in trees.
Good thing I love both of those systems !
Mario 64 has better transitions than this
How the fuck is a main series game in one of the most popular franchises literally ever gonna look so shitty and people still wanna pay money for it. Shame on gamefreak for this
LoD shouldn’t be that effective for being literally right next to the player
But they can’t bring back megas? Bullshit /s
Fuck gamefreak
It’s not camera based, but a LOD thing. As the camera pans away (by angling up) the distance to Fidough increases and his LOD level changes
This is honestly disgraceful. Pokemon is the single most profitable IP on the planet, but they release a game in this state? Unbelievable. It just shows that the Pokémon games are basically just big commercials for merchandise.
Me chamfering my edges in 3DS Max.
It’s crazy that my emulator seems to be running better than the retail game. It’s also sad that the same console that has Breath of the Wild has this game with some really poor textures.
Either way Nintendo still made bank
I’m sorry but people really overestimate the PS2 whenever they say “iT lOoKS LiKE a PS2 gAmE!!!”
Mipmapping at its finest.
Shhh you are spoiling pokemon gen x’s retro form gimmick. /s
I notices this in Arceus as well. Although it was slightly less noticeable.
Running into this ALOT. My hypothesis is that it’s typical gamefreak: cut quality somewhere because something else (usually unnecessary) is using up processing power.
My guess? We have poor detail distance, lots of pop ins, trash textures on anything that’s not a pokemon, terrible shadows, tons of bugs here the floor disappears or pokeballs float in the sky, and abysmal frame rates.
That day/night cycle is flawless though…..
I was gonna say “y’all got any of them pixels” then I realized this just might be the game
What are you guys playing on? This game does not look this bad on my switch? I play docked mode so is that why it looks better? I would be pissed if it really looked this way
You people don’t get it, this actually is peak gaming.
And people are still rushing to buy this game.
Bruh, the old gen San Andreas had better distance textures, and better handling of it than this hunk of shit.
Played for an hour right now, see no issue yet. Looks better than Sword and Shield.
I’m so confused on what happened. Legends of Arceus is nothing like this and wasn’t like this even when it first released. How could they take a successful blueprint and muck it up so badly?
Hahahaha I can’t even 🤣
ok, that’s pretty bad, lol.
Ey don’t talk so bad about the New ps2 game the released now!
This doesn’t happen on OLED.
Yes Is soo bad
How can you justify buying this with your hard earned money?
