Quentin Tarantino on how American independent cinema coincided with alternative music grunge. The Seattle grunge bands of the day loved Reservoir Dogs: Pearl Jam and Nirvana loved the movie. Kurt Cobain loved the movie so much that he thanked Tarantino on In Utero.

if tarantino was still alive he’d blow his own head off like Nirvana did.
Does the word ‘ironicness’ exist? Cool story btw, I’m a fan of all parties involved
I love Quentin’s movies as he really is a cinematic prodigy, but God damn is he such a pompous asshole though.
They liked you then, but would the people they were then, like you now?
I miss the 90s. Everything sucks now.
I love Tarantino but in utero was not nirvanas second album. I’m honestly surprised someone with his knowledge would get that wrong.
Linklater might be a better example of an independent filmmaker running parallel with the alternative scene of the era. One of his early short films in college covered an alternative music festival in Austin, TX called Woodshock ’85 featuring musicians like Daniel Johnston, David Yow of the Jesus Lizard, Dharma Bums, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtDAkX5E8Pg
Also in Slacker the one character who’s trying to sell a Madonna pap smear was the drummer of the Butthole Surfers at the time.
Clearly, Tarantino’s encyclopaedic knowledge of film does not carry over into his knowledge of music. Nirvana’s second album was Nevermind. Their third album was In Utero (not Uterio). This surprises me since music plays such an important role in his films.
