58 years after the release of “The Sound of Music”, the original version of the song “Edelweiss” with vocals by Christopher Plummer was finally released (the actor was dubbed by Bill Lee in the film’s musical numbers).

He doesn’t even sound bad, why did they dub him?
I think the “not good enough” in this version is stunning.
I just assumed he couldn’t sing that well and that’s why it was dubbed. This is really good and whatever studio exec made this decision was an idiot.
Plummer could carry a tune well, which was more than I expected, but Lee is smooth as silk. An easy choice.
I think that Plummer’s vocals work perfectly– he’s supposed to be a retired naval officer; not a professional singer. That kind of shaky, not-quite-perfect voice adds definite depth to the character, and gravitas to that moment.
It’s a shame it was dubbed over, but then, this is supposed to be a musical after all.
That was lovely. A mistake to not use it.

Thought I was looking at a young Michael Fassbender.
