“5-25-77” is finally getting a release date this fall after 18 years in the making. A coming-of-age story about a teenager in Illinois and his excitement for the premiere of Star Wars on May 25, 1977.

I wonder what the excitement actually was at the time. For even the biggest sci fi fans.
Could a trailer or magazine article or novelization even approach the hype that happened after release?
Fan Boys did the job a few years back. Great indie flick.
This looks pretty good.
Why so long?
Jesus! Is this finally being released?! Feels like it’s been 10+ years I’ve been hearing about it.
Edit- yep, filmed from ‘04-‘06.
You think the cast will promote it?
How is Gary Kurtz ‘presenting’ this?
Also, a shame the trailer doesn’t tell you what the movie is actually about instead of just presenting a bunch of vague platitudes about being a nerd in the 70s. Like, what does this specifically have to do with Star Wars if they’re leaning on the Star Wars angle so hard – is this just about a kid who was one of the first people to hop on the Star Wars hype train in 1977? Is it about the making of Star Wars?
I’m more confused than intrigued.
Been waiting for this for over 10 years fucking finally!
As a non Star Wars fan this is the exact kind of thing I find wildly interesting about it. The phenomenon around it (As well as what inspired it etc) I like better than the thing itself and I don’t begrudge people that. I’ll watch.
Is this like Boyhood where they shoot a little every year and follow the kid growing up?
Dude looks like a fusion between Liam Gallagher and Julian Casablancas
Im confused why did this take so long to release and why does the trailer have nothing to do with Star Wars
Lol the Freaks and Geeks kid is the main character. Imagine being cast in a movie, starring role after your breakout show gets cancelled, seeing it as an opportunity to establish yourself as a leading actor and then the movie takes 18 years to come out lol
It’s a pretty boring movie, the premise souned much more interesting than the final product turned out to be. If you’re a die hars SW fan maybe check it out, but otherwise I wouldn’t recommend this
I was an extra in this movie and have been waiting… I guess 18 years for this news!
How does it take 18 years to make a movie?
That trailer is terrible
This movie looks good but holy fuck that trailer was atrocious.
The first time I ever heard about Star Wars was on a news show sometime around Christmas (I think) of 1976.
It was [the TIE fighter attack on the Millenium Falcon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBagc1Ww0_Y)
I’ll always remember seeing that for the first time. The effects were so different and that simple red and yellow targeting grid really stuck with me.
Well at least the time travelers that were in line didn’t have to wait.
And when is that? I don’t see it in the trailer. Or in the description.
Saw this movie five years ago and it sucked hard. Curious to see what’s different, but judging by the trailer it looks like not much…
Why did it take 18 years?
This is crazy. I remember seeing this maybe 8 years ago in high school. I went to the high school depicted in the movie but it was definitely filmed somewhere else. I’m excited to see if they include anything else about Gurnee or six flags.
So after all this time waiting to see this, someone is finally going to distribute it because…The Fabelmans came out? 🤔
Just show the whole freakin movie with all of that
This is an incredible dull movie. About 10 years ago the director brought a screening to my town. It was unfinished with an incredibly long running time. I only lasted 40 minutes it was so terrible.
Interesting how much of it literally looks like it was filmed in the 70s, and how much has really cheap newer fx…
This looks awful
What take it so long?
