Weird time to post this, the one year in the last five where there are many great games and no **clear** winner of GOTY. Last year it was Elden Ring > God of War Rag >>>>>> everything else
To list a few this year:
* Baldur’s Gate 3
* Legend of Zelda: TOTK
* Hogwarts Legacy
* Starfield
* Final Fantasy 16
* Remnant 2
The top two would likely have beaten Elden Ring (BG3 is on the same level and came out later, TOTK has that Nintendo favoritism going for it), while the top 5 would have easily won 2019-2021.
Still bullshit that God of War won GOTY. I played both games twice over by the time they did these awards and thoroughly enjoyed God of War but RDR2 was on another level.
* SOMA
* Undertale
* Rise of the Tomb Raider
* Ori and The Blind Forest
* Fallout 4
* Bloodborne
* Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain
* Batman: Arkham Knight
* The Witcher 3
* Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate
* Mad Max
* Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin
* Dying Light
Dead Space, RE4 Remake, Starfield, Jedi Survivor, Zelda TOK, Diablo 4, Street Fight 6, Hi-Fi rush, FF16, Dredge, Pikmin 4, Octopath Traveler 2, Hogwarts legacy, Wo long, Armored Core 6, Baldur Gate 3, Sea of Stars, Remnant 2, Shadow Gambit, Atomic Heart, Age of Wonders 4, Alan Wake 2, Mario Wonder, Viewfinder, Spiderman 2, Lies of P, Like a Dragon Ishin and Gaiden, sons of the forest, Baten Kaitos remaster (personnal), cyberpunk dlc, Super mario RPG remake
This was around when I got back into gaming, I dumped like 400 into mhw. I couldn’t believe how far games had come since I stopped playing in like 2012
It was actually 2018.
So was 2017. And this year is looking to be on the same level too

RDR2 was robbed harder than Arthur Morgan robbing every unlocked house, poker game and train in the west.
Zelda Totk, Baldurs Gate 3, Lies of P im very Happy with This Year
Now back to “year x was litteranstly best gaming year ever”.
I just installed Celeste last night! Gonna check it out today
Pick any year. Collect cover art of the top games that year. Year XXXX was amazing guys! Receive upvotes?
2005 was something else.

Over 20 new releases, all of them bangers.
This year is better. However, 2004 and 2007 might still be the two best years.
I too can cherry pick some award nominees and make the year of games look good.
2023 is amazing too so far.
Hogwarts, Zelda, Starfield, Jedi, Baldur3, …and we still have Spiderman 2, AC:Mirage, Forza 8 and Cities Skylines 2 in the pipeline.
Edit: Honorable mention for Viewfinder and Dredge!
Man MHW, booted up the game one morning and i saw i was on hour 250 of game time and i was like wtf how. Such a great game.
2017 was better
Can’t believe that 5 yrs ago
I love Celeste and have played the crap out of it but goty it is not. RDR2 was amazing even though it was super slow.
Is Celeste really that good? Never tried it
God MHW came out the same year? Yeesh we were spoiled. And we’re spoiled this year
Detroit Become Human and Forza Horizon 4 were legendary games that also came out in 2018
Still bullshit that God of War won GOTY. I played both games twice over by the time they did these awards and thoroughly enjoyed God of War but RDR2 was on another level.
2007 !
I liked two of these games (Celeste & Red Dead 2).
Was a great year for gaming. I’ll never understand how RDR2 could have lost to God of War though.
This year is even better, somehow.
Monster Hunter when do we get more of it
Monster Hunter 6 with underwater combat when ?
**2015** was also amazing:
* SOMA
* Undertale
* Rise of the Tomb Raider
* Ori and The Blind Forest
* Fallout 4
* Bloodborne
* Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain
* Batman: Arkham Knight
* The Witcher 3
* Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate
* Mad Max
* Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin
* Dying Light
ok?? Have you look at this year even???
Dead Space, RE4 Remake, Starfield, Jedi Survivor, Zelda TOK, Diablo 4, Street Fight 6, Hi-Fi rush, FF16, Dredge, Pikmin 4, Octopath Traveler 2, Hogwarts legacy, Wo long, Armored Core 6, Baldur Gate 3, Sea of Stars, Remnant 2, Shadow Gambit, Atomic Heart, Age of Wonders 4, Alan Wake 2, Mario Wonder, Viewfinder, Spiderman 2, Lies of P, Like a Dragon Ishin and Gaiden, sons of the forest, Baten Kaitos remaster (personnal), cyberpunk dlc, Super mario RPG remake
People make these for literally every year and act like it’s insane.
Red dead should’ve gotten it and everybody knows it.
Red Dead 2, to this day, still leaves a major impact on me. Think about that game all the time still.
RDR2 was robbed. GoW didn’t deserve the reward.

Ac odyssey super underrated.
Are we really starting to romanticize the games from 5 years ago now?
you say, while being in the middle of arguably the greatest year in gaming ever
Lol ac does not belong
Low effort post
Anyone else thinking 2023 is one of these years? There’s just so many great games coming out
GoW clapped rdr2’s cheeks
