Lots of great games on here, but I think it’s interesting to put Breath of the Wild and Blind Forest over the sequels, as I think both of them are major upgrades.
I think this depends a lot on personal taste. I’ve been gaming for 25 years or so and there are many here which I’d agree with, some that I wouldn’t and others that just don’t seem realistic considering the amount of different platforms required.
I feel like the list needs to be more varied. It seems rather wasteful to have multiple games of the same series on the list (that aren’t unique enough that the two could be justified as entirely separate entities.) Like, almost 10% of that list is Mario alone. Seeing PMD and a main series Pokémon game on the list seems fine as they’re different enough to be unique experiences yet could you really say the same to someone who’s never played any Smash game that SSBM and SSBU are unique? To a casual gamer they’re basically the same thing. It’s like if I was to say to someone they must play NES Tetris, GB Tetris, TGM, Tetris with Cardcaptor Sakura, Flash Point, Final Tetris, TE:C, PPT, etc because they all had little quirks that changed the experience enough to stand on their own yet to someone who doesn’t care about Tetris they’re going to see them all as the same thing because you stack blocks in every title.
My personal take for games that should be removed due to duplicate clause:
* Elden Ring (Duplicate to Dark Souls)
* Bloodbourne (Duplicate to Dark Souls)
* Super Mario Odyssey (Duplicate to Super Mario 64)
* Persona 5 (Duplicate to Persona 4)
* Portal 2 (Duplicate to Portal)
* Super Smash Bros Melee (Duplicate to Super Smash Bros Ultimate)
* Kirby Planet Robobot (Duplicate to Kirby’s Epic Yarn)
* Mother 3 (Duplicate to Earthbound)
* Super Mario Maker 2 (Duplicate to Super Mario World)
* Final Fantasy 6 (Duplicate to Final Fantasy 7)
* Mass Effect 2 (Duplicate to Mass effect)
Don’t get me wrong these games are great yet Not only would it be best to only show someone one type of these games to showcase what the series can truly offer yet if it turns out they really like the game they’d likely choose to continue playing those games anyway. Though for other games to add I would pick these titles as they generally add something great to the list that not much else on said list can currently relate to:
People need to lighten up lol, got some good games on the list, people talking crap are just snobs that can’t handle that different people have different opinions
You can personally dislike it but there’s no reason to leave it off a list titled “100 games to play before you die” despite it being touted as the game of the 2010s by a lot of people.

I changed a lot since my first version yesterday with a much larger variety of genres and platforms.
I like the range on this list, from Stardew to Doom and everything in between
Awesome list. Such great variety
Pong? Lol. It was influential, but I don’t know about ‘must play’.
civ 6 over civ 5?
One shot is missing btw

Played 10 of em
I feel like Terraria should be on here as well. I don’t know what it would replace, but it deserves a spot
Tft and wii sports are anything but
BioWare with 4 games on this list, they fell off so bad :,(
Needs more Knack baybeeee
Here’s an idea: How about a collage of games *you actually played* that isn’t catering to popular series and entries for cheap upvotes?
Oh, you didn’t like that idea? Too bad. Stop karma farming.
The lack of Zelda OoT disturbs me.
nah bro that’s 100 games you liked. That’s it
where’s the Yakuza series I can’t find it
Rimworld missing, and witcher 3.
No OoT means this list is irrelevant 😭
You forgot the gollum game!
I don’t see Batman Arkham city
I personally would absolutely add Warframe to this list, but most importantly i’m really happy about Outer Wilds and Inscryption being included.
No Witcher 3
No Yakuza games
Mass Effect 1 but not 3
No FF9
No Ghost Of Tsushima
No Sekiro
Lot of omissions from this list. Unless they are on there and I’m just blind, in which case ignore me
No Oblivion or Morrowind
No OOT
No Subnautica
death stranding should be on here
So I’m supposed to play weeb games before I die?
Skyrim but no Oblivion or Morrowind? Skyrim is 3rd place there.
This is a very strange list of games that definitely feels padded out. You could remove half of these games and have a much better list.
I think this depends a lot on personal taste. I’ve been gaming for 25 years or so and there are many here which I’d agree with, some that I wouldn’t and others that just don’t seem realistic considering the amount of different platforms required.
I’ve played less than 10 and completed less than half of those….
Alyx?
Good list but missing Kingdom Hearts and Devil May Cry
Not enough Mario.
I don’t know if Luigi’s Mansion has aged that well.
No any metal gear solid games. No yakuza. No life is strange. No god of war
Who are we kidding here

* Gran Turismo (Racing)
* Disgaea (Strategy-RPG)
* Dungeon Defenders (Tower Defence, Action-RPG)
* Terraria (2D Platformer, Action, Survival, Sandbox)
* Cave Story (2D Platformer, Action, Adventure)
* Slime Rancher (3D Adventure, Farming)
* Bastion (Isometric Brawler)
* Castle Crashers (2D Brawler)
* Antichamber (3D Puzzle. May clash with Portal however.)
* AER Memories of Old (3D Exploration, Adventure)
* Jazzpunk (3D Exploration, Comedy)
Okami is a very nice choice I don’t see mentioned often. I still listen to the soundtrack all these years later.
Not very impressed with that list, but I’m more of a strategy and RPG gamer. I can at least agree Doom needs to be on the list.
I recognize the good games on the list, but I’m sure there are some missing to make it perfect! nice.
People need to lighten up lol, got some good games on the list, people talking crap are just snobs that can’t handle that different people have different opinions
OP genuine question.
What’s with the Witcher 3 omission?
